Vlora Beach Guide (2026) — Best Places for Swimming & Prices
Are you planning a trip to Albania and looking for the perfect Vlora beach? I live here, explore this coast constantly, and filmed every spot myself. In this independent guide, I will show you where to find crystal-clear water and shallow sandy bays.
Vlora Trip Essentials
🔎 Before we dive into the specific bays, here are the exact platforms I use to travel around Albania:
-
Car Rental: I always book via DiscoverCars to find hidden wild shores.
-
Travel Insurance: I protect my trips with affordable plans from SafetyWing.
-
Excursions & Boats: I find the best local sea tours through GetYourGuide and Viator.
Climate and Weather in Vlora
The city has a mild Mediterranean climate. Summer here is warm, sunny, and dry.
The main Vlora beach season lasts from May to late September. Average summer temperatures hover around 30°C.
Occasionally, southern winds bring African heat up to 40°C. Always check forecasts before your daily swim.
Advantages of the Coast
The local coastline offers a diverse choice for every traveler. Here are the key characteristics:
-
Sandy zones: Feature shallow, warm water.
-
Pebble zones: Offer cool, deep, and clear water.
-
Free zones: Public areas alternate with paid sunbeds.
-
Promenade: Lungomare is packed with excellent restaurants.
The sea air is rich in healthy salts. The mountain views near the coast look stunning. Swimming here is a great way to recover your health.
Sunbed Prices and Features
There are paid and free areas along the entire shore. The distance between them is usually 5 to 10 meters.
The price for one umbrella and two sunbeds ranges from 500 to 1500 lek per day (€5 to €15). You can easily choose the style you prefer.
Central City Beach
This is the main, multi-kilometer Vlora beach located right in the center.
-
Width: The shoreline is about 50 meters wide.
-
Bottom: Soft sand with shallow water extending 50 meters out.
-
Temperature: In summer, the water warms up to 30°C.
Local workers prepare the area thoroughly before June. They install sunbeds, lay wooden walkways, and plant palm trees. Clean toilets and showers are available everywhere.
Cold Water Beach (Uji i Ftohtë)
This unique Vlora beach is located between the sports grounds and the tunnel.
-
Bottom: Coarse sand and pebbles.
-
Water: Much colder, cleaner, and clearer.
-
Depth: The sea drops off quickly.
The area is roughly divided into four pebble zones. Some have concrete steps with railings, while others offer gradual entry.
👉 Since July 2024, the beautiful Lungomare promenade extends past the tunnel. If you love long hikes, check out my complete guide to the Vlora Coastal Trail Route.
The Steps and Pool Complex
Right near the tunnel, you can visit a great hotel complex. It features a beautiful seaside pool and a bar.
You can swim in the pool or jump into the cool sea. Sunbeds are paid, but relaxing on the concrete steps is free. Free showers and toilets are located nearby.
Old Beach (Plazhi i Vjeter)
This sandy Vlora beach sits behind the port and stretches toward Zvernec beach.
-
Pros: The shallow water is safe for families with children. There is spacious free parking.
-
Cons: The port is nearby, so the water is less clear than near the tunnel.
Wild Beach Near Zvernec
If you walk past the Old Beach, you reach a deserted shore opposite Sazan Island.
-
Cons: No tourist facilities, fallen trees, and strong evening gnats in May.
-
Pros: Total solitude, clean soft sand, and zero crowds.
👉 Access is only possible by car across an open field. If you like quiet places, read my review of the hidden Zvernec Secret Beach Hotel or visit the famous Zvernec Monastery and Bridge.

Boat Trips: Sazan Island & Karaburun Peninsula
If you want to escape the city, take a daily pirate boat or a speed boat tour. You can see the wild side of the bay from any central Vlora beach.
👉 I highly recommend booking a full-day sea adventure. You will explore the mysterious military tunnels on Sazan Island and swim inside the giant Haxhi Ali cave.
Afterward, the boats stop at the pristine, untouched beaches of the Karaburun Peninsula. You can easily find and book these top-rated boat tours online via GetYourGuide or Viator.
Safety and Sea Urchins
The Bay of Vlora is shallow and completely safe from dangerous marine life. There are no dangerous sharks here. Sometimes you can see harmless dolphins.
However, sea urchins live in large numbers near the pebble stones. Always wear rubber-soled water shoes when swimming near the tunnel.
Summary of the beaches in Vlora
The beaches of Vlora are popular among many Europeans.
In fact, some come specifically for vacation.
👉 The sandy, shallow beaches are ideal for families with children, while the pebble beaches with cool waters are ideal for experienced swimmers.
