About Krorez Beach Albania

The Krorez mountain range in southern Albania
At the foot of the mountain is the Krorez beach

Krorez Beach is located between Saranda and Himara. It sits right next to the beautiful Kakome Bay. The area is completely cut off from the local road network. On one side stands a high mountain ridge, and on the other is the open sea.

You can only get to Krorez Beach Albania in two ways:

  • By excursion boat from Saranda (the easiest and most popular option).
  • On foot via a scenic but challenging mountain trekking trail.

The overland trail starts near the guarded gate before Kakome. Most hikers leave their cars parked along the main road before this entrance. Getting here is a big part of the overall adventure.

Krorez Beach Overview

Krorez Coast in Albania
Two beaches of Krorez (north and south) from the mountain range

Krorez is actually made up of two different beaches. A small, easily crossable rocky ridge separates them.

  • The Southern Beach: This is the main and most popular section. Most tour boats drop anchor here.
  • The Northern Beach: This part is much quieter. It is a completely wild alternative for peace seekers.

Specifications:

  • The combined shoreline is about 1 kilometer long.
  • The width ranges between 30 and 40 meters.
  • The surface consists of coarse sand and small pebbles.
  • The water has a unique, light blue pearl shade.

During the summer season, both areas offer basic amenities. You can find a few rustic beach cafes, bars, sunbeds, and umbrellas. However, the coast does not look overdeveloped. You are surrounded only by green nature and mountains.

The Cliff at the End of the Beach

The rock blocks the path along the seashore to Kakoma Beach

At the far southern end, the beach meets a steep cliff. It drops straight down into the deep sea. Some travelers try to walk toward Kakome Beach along the shoreline from this point.

In reality, this route is highly dangerous. The rock face is vertical and slippery.

Climbing out of the water onto the smooth stones is tricky. It is much better to view this cliff as a natural end of the beach. Do not use it as a walking route.

The Isthmus & Northern Beach

Isthmus of Krorez Beach
A short isthmus connects the two beaches of Krorez

A short, narrow sandy isthmus connects the two parts of Krorez Beach Albania. If you want to escape the main tourist crowds, walk here.

This northern section offers fewer people and interesting rocky areas. It is also an exceptional spot for snorkeling because the water is perfectly transparent.

💡 My Advice: A formal hiking trail runs along the very top of the mountain ridge. It covers the entire coastline and offers incredible panoramic views for photography.

Boat Trips from Saranda

Dozens of excursion boats arrive here daily from June to September. Most tour operators visit Krorez on the way back to Saranda.

The boats usually stop at the beach for 3–4 hours. This gives you plenty of time to swim, relax, and have lunch. Ships depart back to the city port around 16:30 or 17:00.

The usual price of the tour: 30 euro (from 25 to 45 euro with breakfast or fruit).

After their departure, the beach quickly becomes quiet and almost empty.

If you like light trekking, you can explore two historical sites located on the hills above the coast.

The ancient Krorez Monastery sits about 100 meters directly above the beach.

The walking trail starts near the IL MARE beach cafe. It is a relatively easy, short uphill hike.

The route rewards you with beautiful overhead views of the Ionian Sea.

Monastery of Saint Mary (Manastiri i Shen Merise)

The hike to the Monastery of Saint Mary is more challenging.

The path is about 1.5 kilometers one way. You will need 2–3 hours for a round-trip with stops.

The trail goes over a mountain pass and is marked with signs. Along the way, you will see old concrete military bunkers from the communist era.

You will also enjoy panoramic views of both beaches. It is better to hike this route with a partner.
