Gjipe Beach Albania (2026) — How to Get There + Hidden Canyon Guide
Gjipe Beach is located 3.5 km from Albania’s coastal highway. A narrow one-way asphalt road leads to it along the canyon.
Essentially, the beach is part of a valley nestled in a gorge between the mountains.
Gjipe Beach: How to Get There
The stress in “Gjipe” falls on the last syllable: that’s how Albanians pronounce it.
The road to the parking area is 2.7 km of asphalt.
Then begins a roughly one-kilometer stretch along a mountain slope.
The road from the parking lot to the beach is only suitable for off-road vehicles.
Important recommendation: leave your regular car at the parking area and walk the rest of the way to the beach.
Turn-off coordinates: 40.140391, 19.676343.
Road from the Highway to the Parking Area
The road runs along a scenic canyon.
A canyon is a massive cut in the earth’s crust, with high edges (cliffs) on both sides. It is surrounded by forest on all sides.
The road is very narrow: just wide enough for a single car.
Every 300–500 meters, there are pull-offs on the right or left for passing oncoming vehicles.
Sometimes drivers have to “back up” and pull into a pocket to let the other car pass.
In the photo, two cars met head-on at a bend in the road.
Car Parking
This is the place where you can and should leave your car.
There are both free and paid options.
The free spot is off to the side before the main parking area. There’s little space and few cars.
In the center of the parking lot, there’s an “entry point” to the road leading to the beach.
Important: a red arrow on the sign clearly marks the spot where the trail to the beach begins between the bushes.
Trail entrance coordinates: 40.130441, 19.658271
Parking Prices
Payment for passenger cars:
- for 12 hours — 400 lek (about 4 euros),
- for 24 hours — 700 lek (about 7 euros).
Payment for minibuses:
- for 12 hours — 500 lek (about 5 euros),
- for 24 hours — 1000 lek (about 10 euros).
Be ready to pay in cash, in lek or euros.
The Path from the Parking Lot to Gjipe Beach
Gjipe Beach is in a hard-to-reach location.
What can be called a road to it is really just a route with boulders sticking out of the ground here and there.
The descent from the parking lot goes downhill and is easy to walk. But the way back will be an uphill hike of nearly 1 km.
This difficulty of access is what makes the beach a highlight for travelers.
You’ll have something to remember.
Gjipe Beach: Overview
From the road, there’s a full view of Gjipe Beach at the edge of the canyon.
Beach features:
- length approximately 250 meters, with 30 meters stretching along sheer cliffs;
- width about 50 meters;
- a sandy beach with fine pebbles.
Deeper in the canyon among the trees, there is a tent camping site.
Central Part of the Beach
Gjipe Beach lies between high canyon cliffs that surround it on both sides.
Tourists often bring their own tents to spend the night right on the seashore.
Southern End of the Beach
The southern part of the beach features a sandy shoreline along a tall, steep cliff.
This is where selfie lovers and sunbathers seeking solitude hang out.
The sand is very soft, and the water is a deep, rich blue.
Gjipe Eco Camping Tent Camp
Beyond the beach, among the trees, is the Gjipe Eco Camping site.
You can spend the night in a tent, and the rental includes breakfast and a beach lounger.
The campsite offers different types of tents, and prices depend on the season and availability.
At reception, you’ll receive a token for breakfast and a token for overnight stay.
The average price per person per night is 15 euros with breakfast.
It’s a peaceful and amazing place. The beauty of the mountains will enchant you.
Leisure at Gjipe Beach
Cafes, Bars, Restaurants
There are several bars and restaurants on the beach offering a wide variety of food and drinks.
One of the restaurants serves breakfast to campers using tokens in the morning.
During the day, you can eat at any establishment.
Sleeping in Your Own Tent
In various parts of the beach, there are many private tents where people stay right by the sea.
I saw about 10 off-road vehicles that managed to reach the beach.
There was even a tent set up on the roof of a jeep.
Trail to Jale Beach
Gjipe Beach is not a “dead-end” — the coastline does not stop there.
A mountain trail leads from Gjipe to Jale Beach. It runs along the mountain slopes by the sea.
I walked along it — the scenery is very picturesque and open.
The trail is 7 km long, and the hike takes from 2 to 2.5 hours.
Gjipe-Jale trail begins 5 meters from the restaurant where the campsite guests have breakfast.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions about Gjipe Beach
Can I drive all the way to the beach with a regular car?
No. The last kilometer from the parking area is a rocky dirt track with large boulders. Only high-clearance 4×4 vehicles can manage it. It’s strongly recommended to leave your regular car at the parking lot and walk down (15–20 minutes downhill, 25–30 minutes uphill on the way back).
How much does parking cost and how do I pay?
For regular cars: 400 ALL (≈ €4) for 12 hours, 700 ALL (≈ €7) for 24 hours. For vans and minibuses: 500 ALL / 1,000 ALL respectively. Cash only (Albanian Lek or Euros). Cards are not accepted.
Can I camp with my own tent directly on the beach?
Yes, it’s free. Many travelers do exactly that. There are good spots in the central part of the beach and near the southern cliff. Please don’t leave trash behind and respect other visitors.
What’s better: Gjipe Eco Camping or camping with my own tent?
Your own tent is completely free and puts you right by the sea. The eco camping offers more comfort (showers, toilets, breakfast, sunbed) for around €15 per person per night. Choose based on whether you want a wild experience or a bit more convenience.
How long does the Gjipe → Jale trail take?
The trail is 7 km long and usually takes about 2–2.5 hours one way. You’ll need sturdy shoes and some caution: there are steep sections, descents, thorny bushes, and boulders. Not recommended in extreme heat or right after rain.
Is there Wi-Fi, showers, and toilets on the beach?
Wi-Fi is available only at the campsite and some cafes. Toilets and cold showers can be found at Gjipe Eco Camping and in a couple of beach bars. The wild part of the beach has no facilities.
Is it safe to leave my car at the parking lot?
Yes, the parking is paid and guarded. Still, it’s wiser to take valuables with you to the beach.
